Paper Finishes (Foiling)
Getting It Right
At Vytal Digital, we believe in speed, convenience while not compromising on quality and efficiency.
We introduced finishes like soft-touch, honeycomb, foils (gold, silver, wavy blue & red, leather, etc.) to our clients, and they love it. The question we usually get is, “How do I get the foil done on specific places of my design?” The answer is the purpose of this post.
If you are a graphic designer, then this should be easy. If you are not, it should not be too difficult either.
- When you finish designing your artwork;
- Isolate the text/objects you want to add as a finish only, and ‘paste in place’ on a new canvas/artboard/page of the same size and resolution.
- Change the isolated images for foiling to black only. Make sure to remove the isolated images from the non-foil design.
- Export your artwork to PDF, ensuring your foil image is on the last page.
NB:
- If your artwork is multiple designs arranged on, for instance, an A3 page, please ensure your foil designs are placed accordingly.
- You do not need to repeat foil pages if it is the same for probably ten (10) other pages.
We hope this post was helpful. If you have any questions or want further explanations, do not hesitate to contact us through any of our mediums.
